Privacy and personal data

Summary

• No account: we never ask for your name, email or phone number to use the site.
• No cookies, no tracking: we use no cookies, ads or visitor-tracking tools.
• Your location is not stored: when you ask for directions from your location, it goes to our server only to work out that route; it is not stored and never written into the page address. On the nearest-stop and İstanbulkart pages your location never leaves your phone.

What your browser keeps

For convenience, a few things are kept only in your browser (local storage) and are not sent to us. You can remove all of them by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

• Your recent picks and journeys: for quick selection in directions, up to 6 places or stops and 4 journeys (from–to). Your location is never written to this list.
• App banner preference: if you closed the banner, the date you closed it, so it stays hidden for 14 days.

Location

On the directions, nearest-stop and İstanbulkart centre pages, your browser asks for permission when you press "Use my location".

• In directions: when you ask for a route from or to your location, your location is sent to our server to work out the route. It travels inside the request, not in the page address, so it does not end up in address logs, your browser history or a directions link you share. The server uses it only for the route calculation and does not write it to disk or to logs. To speed up searches from the same spot, the walking calculation may stay in the server's memory for a while; it is cleared when the server restarts or as new searches come in.
• On the nearest-stop and İstanbulkart centre pages: the nearest places are worked out on your phone; your location is not sent to our server.

Search and street map

When you search for a station, neighbourhood, street or place, what you type is sent to our server to fetch suggestions. Our server does not store the search text; it keeps only a total count of requests. The street map, its fonts and icons also come from our own server; no request is sent to another company for the map.

Server logs

Our own server writes only totals once a minute (requests, errors, response times); the requested address, search text and IP address are not included. To block excessive requests, your IP address is kept only in the server's memory, never written to disk; it is cleared when the server restarts or as new visitors arrive.

The site runs on a hosting service that serves the pages. Such services may briefly log technical details of a visit (IP address, browser type, requested address, time) for security and troubleshooting. Because search suggestions are part of the requested address, search text may appear in these logs; your location does not. We do not use these logs to identify people or for advertising.

If you email us

If you write to report an error or ask a question, we use your email address and message only to reply and to fix what you reported; we do not share them with third parties. Once we are done, we delete them if you ask.

Links to other sites

When you follow a link to an app store, an official body or a map, that site's own privacy rules apply. Our app store links carry a tag showing which of our pages the download came from; this tag contains no personal information about you.

Your rights under KVKK

Under Article 11 of Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK), you have the right to learn whether your personal data is processed, to request information if it is, to learn the purpose, to know who it has been shared with, to ask for it to be corrected if incomplete or wrong, to ask for it to be deleted, and to object.

Changes

If the way the site works changes (for example, a new feature needs personal data), we update this page beforehand; the date of the last update is shown at the top.
