Istanbul public transport fares 2026
How much does the metro, tram, bus, Metrobus, Marmaray and ferry cost, how to buy an Istanbulkart and how to ride without one. Official İETT and İBB tariffs, valid since 20 July 2026.

Single ride
On the metro, tram, bus, Tünel, funicular and cable car the fare does not depend on distance: you pay once when you tap your card.

Student and reduced fares need a personalised student or discount card issued in Turkey. Free travel for people aged 65+ and people with disabilities requires the relevant registered card.
Transfers
If you board another vehicle within 2 hours of your first ride, you pay less: 1st transfer 34.40 TL, 2nd 26.42 TL, 3rd–5th 17.18 TL (full fare). Transfer discounts and the Metrobus refund need a personalised Istanbulkart (registered to your name); there is no transfer discount when transferring to the Metrobus.
Istanbulkart: buy and top up
- Buy: yellow Biletmatik machines in most metro, Metrobus and ferry stations, or kiosks with the Istanbulkart sign. The card costs 165 TL.
- Top up: at the same machines with cash or a bank card, or in the Istanbulkart mobile app.
- Personalise: registering the card in the Istanbulkart app or online unlocks transfer discounts.
Without an Istanbulkart
Single and multi-ride paper cards are sold at Biletmatik machines; you can also tap a contactless bank card (single-ride fare, no transfer discount).

Rules to know
- Transfer discounts, the Metrobus refund and free travel on special days need a card registered to your name. An unregistered card does not get them.
- The transfer window is 2 hours: rides within 2 hours of the first one are charged the transfer fare.
- With discounted, free and monthly cards, boarding again at the same point (station, stop or pier) requires 30 minutes since the card was last used.
- There is no transfer discount when changing to the Metrobus from other transport; it does apply when changing from the Metrobus.
- No Metrobus refund at the same stop: travel at least one stop and tap your card on the refund machine at the exit. The refund window is 2 hours.
- The Metrobus distance tariff does not apply between 01:00 and 06:00: the highest fare (34+ stops) is charged regardless of distance.
- There is no transfer discount on the same vehicle (same fleet number).

The highest fare is charged when you board; tap your card on the refund machine at the exit to get the difference back (personalised card). Between 01:00 and 06:00 the maximum fare applies with no refund. Metrobus stations and times.
How much do example trips cost?
On the fastest route, with a personalised Istanbulkart at full fare. Changing lines without leaving the gates costs nothing, so the total is the most you will pay.

Monthly pass (mavi kart)
If you ride every day, the monthly pass can be cheaper. It is valid for one month and gives a set number of rides; it is loaded on a personalised Istanbulkart.
Marmaray, M11 and T6 fares
The Marmaray, the M11 airport metro and the T6 tram are run by TCDD; you ride with an Istanbulkart but fares come from separate tables. The Marmaray and the M11 are priced by the number of stations.

Minibus fare
On minibuses the fare depends on how far you go, with the same distance bands on every line. There is no Istanbulkart transfer discount. Each line's page lists the fare between stops (in Turkish).

Bus lines with other fares
Some İETT lines are outside the normal tariff: short neighbourhood lines are cheaper; lines crossing the Bosphorus bridges, airport and express lines cost more. On bridge-crossing lines the normal fare applies if you do not pass the fare change point. Fares below are full fare; on "no transfer" lines there is no discount when coming from another vehicle either.
